Two photographs I took for clients Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation and Plaza Construction were selected as runner-up(s) for the 2011 ENR Magazine photo contest. Not first place, but hey. The photographs were from an ongoing project at the Brooklyn Navy Yard - the renovation and new construction of Building 92, which has a new welcome center for the Navy Yard, as well as a museum, and jobs training center. A couple of my photos are also included in the permanent display at the museum. The photographs below are from the day when a specialized rigged crew hoisted and installed a 22,500 pound anchor into the lobby. The anchor had been in use on a ship that was built in the Navy Yard back in the day.
Recent online premiere of a music video I shot recently, or not so much; last summer. The song is “Some Nights (Intro)” by the band Fun, check it out here. Much obliged to Poppy de Villeneuve who directed the video, and also to Arianna LaPenne (www.ariannalapenne.com) who split the two camera workload with me. Filmed in a lovely old school Bed-Stuy mansion in Brooklyn.
Ola, been a minute. Just a heads up that I’m teaching Photo 1 Digital at the ICP this spring. Class starts April 14th and meets every Saturday 10am - 1pm. Take a peek here.
Teaching an intro level RAW workshop at Calumet NYC this Saturday, June 4th from 10-1. We will be covering the basics of the RAW file, basic workflow and basic processing. This is solid intro to the subject in a speedy 3 hour session. Check it out and sign up HERE.
A video I made with my iPhone a couple weeks ago at Columbus Circle was highlighted in a Chase Jarvis post on his blog. A combo of the glass walls of the Bouchon Bakery balcony and the clear view to the floor helped me out on this one, some in-camera trickery…
Currently out in the Southern California desert helping my friend Gary Breslin of panOptic on a feature film that he is directing. We’re making some nice time-lapse shots for the film, and I’m also kicking in a little as 2nd unit DP so they can get this thing done in 13 days. Gary and I met when we were 12 and have been working on projects ever since.
Music video that I shot for Rival Schools’ track ‘Wring It Out’. Directed by Jordan Galland, Produced by Ryan Dearth, FX by Gary Breslin. My man Sam Cole of Make-Believe worked with me on this technically as B Camera, but we really approached it as a pair of A Cameras. Couldn’t have done it with him.
Christies recently held an auction for Jeff Koons’ “Balloon Flower (Blue)” sculpture. They shipped it in from Germany and I got to shoot time-lapse of the installation process. I was unprepared for how shiny it was once they unwrapped it. If I had a spare $16,000,000 around, I’d consider buying it.
Recent music video I shot for Sean Lennon and Charlotte Kemp Muhl’s collaborative effort called Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger. The video was directed by Jordan Galland. My friend Justin Acree of panOptic helped out as B camera on this one. Here’s the synopsis:
“The Music Video for “Schroedinger’s Cat” a track by Sean Lennon and Charlotte Kemp Muhl — the duo better known as The Ghost of A Saber Tooth Tiger. Off of the band’s latest album, Acoustic Sessions, the “Schroedinger’s Cat” music video gives us a window into an unusual gathering of historical and pop culture icons, including Albert Einstein, Mozart, Marilyn Monroe, Amelia Earhart, Genghis Khan, Nikola Tesla, played by an equally as unusual group of present day musicians (Albert Hammond Jr. Cat Pierce, Adam Green) who converge on Union Pool to watch a mystical dance performance.”
Music video that I shot for The Americans this summer. Directed by Jordan Galland. Many thanks to Arianna LaPenne for teaming up with me and doing stellar work on the B camera.
